GENERIC PRICING GUIDELINE 2021 This multiplier will give you a general idea of the costs for a commissioned original painting. Calculate the square inches of the painting that you are planning on having done. This is length times width for your overall square inches and then multiply it by 8. An example for generic pricing for a painting size in the medium size and complexity range would be as follows 20 inches long by 16 inches tall = 320 square inches x 8 = $2,560.00 Complexity of painting is largely dependant upon the background, foreground, and how many individuals are in the painting. For a firm price quote, please contact me via email. There is a sample chart of Complexity Levels for your referencing.
WORKING A QUOTE FROM IMAGES THAT YOU PROVIDE For the most part, the majority of my paintings are completed from photographic images that I have taken, but the majority of my commissioned paintings, I have worked from photos that have been provided to me by my clients. I have also completed photoshoots for commissioned paintings such as “Victory in Unision” and “A Gift for Will”, and several others. I would build the photoshoots into my fixed price quote if required. Fixed price quotes are by the best way of securing a firm price from the Artist so that you will know exactly what your commissioned piece will cost you. In securing a fixed price quote, please attach your image to an email as a jpg and email it along with an introduction note with your preferred size for your painting to gabrielkrekk@gmail.com .

CREATIVE LIBERTIES WORKING FROM YOUR IMAGE In planning every painting, I spend a considerable amount of time in a thoughtful process to look for opportunities to improve on every painting. ‘Brothers Bonding” is another example of expanding an image to enhance the composition. For this painting, I felt that it was important that the hands of both boys be captured in the painting rather than be cut off at the fingers. I also lightened most areas of the flesh tones and strenghtened the colors in the background giving it more of a richness in depth. As an Artist, these are the discussion points that I will have prepared after a close study of your image.
The UNIQUESNESS OF A GABRIEL KREKK ORIGINAL WATERCOLOR PAINTING
In the 1990’s, I began a process of tracking my daily hours that I worked on one of my watercolor paintings. This became a vitally important process as it allowed me to build confidence in the pricing of commissioned pieces and to also provide a fair return on the price of my original paintings. I moved my work to large format paintings in 2015 where the width of the image area is greater than 30 inches and with it came a major increase in my time to complete a painting. With the large format paintings, my originals require anywhere from 100 to 275 hours from the drawing time to the signature on the completed painting. Each original watercolor painting that I complete has a log located on the original canvas, usually at the bottom of the painting and always written with a graphite pencil. This log contains the date that I worked on the piece, the number of hours for that day, a running total number of hours, and any personal events that occurred in my life on a specific day. This log will stay with the original painting and will remain hidden beneath the matting for history to reveal.
The significance of the way that I have been documenting my originals was recognized by the editor of Canadian Brushstroke Magazine and in their July/August 2007, published a five page article from my interview with the editor.

Each of my original watercolor paintings bear my embossed seal in the lower right hand corner of the canvas with my signature signed through the seal and also with its assigned serial number. This serial number is entered into my database along with the description of the painting for historical records.
